DESCRIPTION

[HLP 08]

Investment in water security drives sustainable growth and development. Yet, investment in water security falls short of global needs and commitments of the international community. Increasing investment in water is a must, notably for implementing several Sustainable Development Goals. After the 7th World Water Forum, the Roundtable on Financing Water was initiated by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the World Water Council and the Government of the Netherlands to support a long-lasting, action-oriented dialogue between the water community and financiers. The Roundtable contributes to awareness-raising; consensus building on enabling conditions; and the development of practical recommendations for action by a range of stakeholders. It feeds into global initiatives, such as the High-Level Panel on water, in particular the work on financing and valuing water.
The objective of this High-Level Panel at 8th Forum is to draw upon political leadership and technical expertise to:
·        Raise the profile of the issue on the international policy agenda and within the investment community;
·        Identify barriers to further investment in water security;
·        Promote impactful and practical ways of financing investment in water security and sustainable growth;
Secure commitment for further action at global, national and local level. The Roundtable provides a global public– private platform for a range of actors (financiers, project owners, civil society, governments, etc.) and explores issues such as: how to convert the economic benefits of water security into financial returns; how to scale-up financing through an attractive risk-return profile; how to blend different sources of finance.Investment in water security drives sustainable growth and development.
