Closing Session on GOVERNANCE

Thursday - 16:30 - 18:00

THEME

Governance

ROOM

Room 29

DESCRIPTION

[SS-TP-16]

The Theme Governance will be holding 9 ordinary sessions during the 8th Forum week. The Theme is also going to be discussed as a cross-cutting issue during six Ministerial Thematic Roundtables, and in a number of Special Sessions, High Level Panels and sessions from other Forum processes. The nine sessions organised under the Governance theme addressed the topics of IWRM, transboundary cooperation and effective governance overall. They provide policy guidance, lessons from practice, and measurement tools for governments to build effective, efficient, inclusive and trustworthy water governance frameworks, in partnership with the broad range of stakeholders. All aimed to achieving the global targets for sustainable development, highlighting the role of water governance, including the 2030 Agenda, the New Urban Agenda, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and other global commitments.

The Thematic Closing Session on Governance will highlight the main conclusions on the current state of affairs and proposed actions to be implemented in the short and long term, as well as potential actors to be involved, and will address:
a. Key political messages
b. Specific linkages to international frameworks and how these messages should be taken into account
d. Short-term Goals (where do we need to be in 2021 and 2024?) to contribute to the long-term goal in 2030
f. How do we get there? (plan for scaling up, including some focus on good practices)

The final purpose of the Governance Closing Session is to contribute to the outcomes of the 8th Forum in support of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda /SDG’s, and to ensure continuity towards the Forums to come.]
