DESCRIPTION

[OS-RP-60] Urban Water Challenges in the AmericasUrbanization is a worldwide phenomenon. Since 2011, for the first time in human history human population lives preponderantly in cities. In the next 40 years, cities will receive 800,000 additional inhabitants per week. This scenario and the absolute or partial lack of services for people living in many cities worldwide, combined with population and economic growth, are factors that will demand improved and new approaches for management of urban water. Worldwide rapid urbanization demands innovative ways to conceive and operate water management. New approaches are required to optimize the joint management of water, land use and energy, as well as to decrease the water footprint of cities and to control the transportation of contaminants into water and the transfer of pollutants among water, soil and the urban air
