The best practices and accumulated solutions within the numerous development programs when reflected in the legislation have positive impact on the government policies and overall regional stability. The disconnect between practice, science, and policy, which makes policy uptake process difficult, however efforts of regional organizations such as CAREC, ED IFAS and ICWC provide valuable insight on how cooperation in environmental and water-related fields can lead to real on the ground results. The side-event will share the experience regional organizations have working in Central Asia have in combating the Aral Sea catastrophe (Aral Sea Basin Program 3 and 4), examples of water diplomacy initiatives on transboundary rives and results of the research done on “Cost of inaction in Central Asia”.
