World Bank (in cooperation with GEF, IIASA and UNEP)
The side event will focus on addressing current and future risks to meet water, land and energy demands and maintain critical ecosystems functions in transboundary basins. The event will feature presentations two GEF-funded studies related to transboundary water management, including a global assessment on risks to sustainable water development (UNEP) and identification of nexus hot-spots (IIASA). The event will also feature a presentation on nexus issues related to climate, water, and energy in a Brazilian federal setting (World Bank). Furthermore, this will be the launching event for a new World Bank toolkit on Promoting Development on Shared Basins, which compiles and presents the multiple tools that can be employed by countries and development partners to address future risks and hotspots through developing more water secure economies and societies in transboundary basins.
