UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Rome, Italy
The event aims to promote water accounting because of the benefits it brings to sustainable development, agricultural production and resource governance. The rationale behind water accounting is that scope exists to improve water-related sectoral and inter-sectoral decision-making at local, regional and national levels. The event will be organized as the result of a World Water Council membership initiative on Water Accounting. WWC-members involved in the initiative are: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), International Water Management Institute (IWMI), University of Nebraska Daugherty Water for Food Institute (DWFI), UNE+A1:J56SCO Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE) and the UNESCO World Water Assessment Program (UNESCO-WWAP).
